Friday Flashback: Story Marathoners

I wanted to try a new number crunch for the Flashback this week. Previously I’ve done rundowns of stories with the longest gaps between installments, long stories with the lowest word counts per part, etc. Here, I wanted to try for a list of stories that ran for a long time with close to regular weekly updates. For example: the king of this category, AKA’s “Hulkster and Hoppy,” ran for 23 parts over 19 weeks from February to June of 2021. Pretty damn steady work, and a memorable and evocative tale as well.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not on the list—despite various multichapter stories over the years—because my ongoing stories are mostly monthly recurring commissions and so update on a more lunar cycle. The lowest average weekly interval for an extended-length BRK story is 29 parts (so far) over 73 weeks for “The Right Blend,” owing to monthly updates that often involve two or three small chapters rather than one big one. “Blend”’s parent story, “One Hot Summer,” is close behind with 54 chapters over 156 weeks. Most of my other long-runners are like “Resolutions,” which ran for 13 chapters over 13 months in 2021 and 2022.

Check out my list, or browse the archives and see what you find, ’cause there’s a lot of stuff back there. The next update is tomorrow, 24 August. In the meantime, have fun browsing and exploring, and thanks for visiting the site.
